Cher Horowitz by Topshop

Cher Horowitz by Topshop

Cher Horowitz by Topshop by elbonner featuring a black cotton skirt

As scholarly and intellectual as I may seem (shut up, Emily), I cannot deny that one of my favorite movies ever made is Clueless. It's a modern take on Jane Austen's Emma and I love its ridiculousness and naive self absorption that consumes the films protagonist, Cher Horowitz. Plus, it's really funny and I love getting all nostalgic about the mid-nineties. One of the best and most memorable things about the movie is the fashion. Cher and Dionne have some of the cutest/most ridiculous outfits and I often find myself wondering how to create my own similar ensembles that won't get me laughed at in the world of today. Luckily, I have found a place that has allowed me to do that through the magic of Polyvore: Topshop! Topshop hails from the motherland (UK) and has always been the place to get cool stuff. Above I have put together a few 2013 friendly outfits that Cher Horowitz's of today would totally be into. The nineties are back and there's nothing you can do about it! Have fun and revisit some fun memories via wardrobe; sunflowers included!!

Spooky Scary

It's almost Halloween and once that time comes around I like to drink Mexican hot chocolate and watch spooky music videos. Here are a few of my favorites!

"If I Had A Heart" by Fever Ray. Karen Dreijer Anderssen has awesome skull makeup that would be an awesome Halloween look! This video is dark and strange and creeps me out in a good way!

"What's a Girl To Do" by Bat For Lashes. Creepy Donnie Darko-esque animals doing sweet BMX jumps on a darkened forest road? Why that's enough to make me sleep with my covers tucked underneath my feet!

"How I Know" by Toro Y Moi. Not really creepy, but it looks almost like a Scooby Doo haunted house adventure gone wrong. It is complete with weird ghost sisters, nerdy group of boyhood friends, and choreographed dance numbers. Totally Halloweeny!

"They Made Frogs Smoke 'Til They Exploded" by Múm. Weird Henry Darger-like drawings of kids and animals, check. Drawing scary faces on said kids and animals and making them bleed, check. Strange Icelandic wizard music, triple check! Múm is absolutely experimental, but this video makes me feel weird inside!

Hope those don't keep you up all night and happy almost Halloween!

Have a Badass Fall

Have a Badass Fall

Have a Badass Fall by elbonner featuring round toe boots

It's the autumnal equinox which means it's friggin' fall! For me, my favorite part of fall is going to Howl-o-Scream at Busch Gardens, a theme park close by. The park opens all of these crazy haunted houses and stays open late so you can ride the rides at nighttime. It's way better than summer because you're not sweating your balls off in line for an hour and since it's off season a lot of the tourists are gone! Since theme parks have a tendency to attract the dregs of society, I like to look as well put-together as possible to make other people feel bad about their outfit choices. This year I'm going for the   "Don't talk to me in line. Ever" look while still maintaining the amount of comfort you'd need to walk around a theme park all day. I like these coated jeans because they have the bad ass look of leather, but with the benefit of maintaining a level of posterior breathability (it can still be warm here in October :( ). I've included some comfortable motorcycle boots for kicking haunted house monsters, a messenger bag to hide all the food I want to sneak in, and a jacket for when it gets a bit chilly outside. Plus, it looks like something you'd hunt vampires in so it's holiday appropriate! I love going with my friends because we can walk around, have a beer, and get scared shitless. I love Howl-o-Scream!
